Mussolini’s grand daughter hit the headlines last week with her short / sharp reply to Jim Carrey’s Twitter post featuring a cartoon celebrating the death of the infamous dictator Mussolini. While the cartoon is quite disturbing (featuring his wife also). It is no less disturbing than the already online photographs of the same incident.
Jim commented that he posted the cartoon to celebrate the death of a dictator on the anniversary.

A Fascist Legacy Active Within Politics
What took many people by surprise was that Mussolini has a grand daughter who is working as a politician in the EU parliament – aligned closely to the far right factions in the EU she has even inherited her grand fathers own political beliefs.
Should Far Right Celebrities Be Restricted?
This does pose a disturbing question in itself, whether a known dictator and mass murderer can be allowed to have a valid political legacy that is allowed to feature in government itself? Surely we as a society must learn from our mistakes and not repeat the problems of the past?
One thing we do know is that when Fascists come to power they restrict politicians even to the point of imprisonment and even death. So why should they be allowed to hold office?
Would it even be correct to restrict people with far right views that margin on causing a breach of the peaceful right for all people to live together in peace?
Whatever the answer to the questions raised – it has been said that we should not inherit the hard tactics of the Far Right to restrict people – least we become Fascist ourselves and tread the fine line from democracy to totalitarianism.
But what is certain is – we should learn from the past and teach it to our children so they do not repeat us.
