Ok so this is not technically a poem but bare with us here, read it as a poem today.. reasoning why explained after the poem.
Imagine lyrics (John Lennon)
Imagine there’s no heaven It’s easy if you try No hell below us Above us only sky Imagine all the people living for today Imagine there’s no countries It isn’t hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too Imagine all the people living life in peace, you You may say I’m a dreamer But I’m not the only one I hope some day you’ll join us And the world will be as one Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can No need for greed or hunger A brotherhood of man Imagine all the people sharing all the world, you You may say I’m a dreamer But I’m not the only one I hope some day you’ll join us And the world will be as one
John Lennon had a huge impact on my life and I guess many others, it was because of him that I started to write my own lyrics and eventually poems.
This piece of writing is a yearning for change, the first stanza drops the bomb – imagine that there is no heaven, I am not going to debate religion here but the simplicity of the message and the call to people – “imagine all the people living for today”.
Read as a poem this is an unusual pick but I hope you like it as a piece of writing as itself. And if you want to hear it also as the song now have a listen here.
