It’s Neil Young; his voice, his words with a simple guitar riff. this song, for reasons too clear, has always been a winner.
The words really hit home even if you’ve never been near drugs. It reminds me of the amount of young people I see, and hear of nowadays dying through this terrible addiction which could all be alleviated a lot if we ended prohibition and moved to a more sensible and tested system of treating drug addicts as victims who need psychological and medical help rather than treating them all as criminals – the cost on the tax payer would likely be a lot less as well.
I caught you knockin' at my cellar door I love you, baby, can I have some more Ooh, ooh, the damage done. I hit the city and I lost my band I watched the needle take another man Gone, gone, the damage done. I sing the song because I love the man I know that some of you don't understand Milk-blood to keep from running out. I've seen the needle and the damage done A little part of it in everyone But every junkie's like a settin' sun.
