Alan Watts was a speaker and author who interpreted Buddhism, Hinduism and other eastern beliefs/ideologies for Western Audiences.
The speech in this video, known as the Veil of Thoughts, focuses on misconceptions in our culture and how we have hidden the truth behind a veil of thoughts. He talks about how confusions between reality and symbols has led to issues with the state of the world, such as animal extinction, climate change.
Since he talks about the reality and faults of money in this speech, I thought I’d leave another great excerpt from Watts about the misconceptions associated with money, as seen in The Incredible True Story – Logic: We’d like to be painters, we’d like to be poets.
We’d like to be writers, but as everybody knows—we can’t earn any money that way. What do you want to do? When we finally got down to something which the individual says he really wants to do, I will say to him you do that—and uh—forget the money. If you say that getting the money is the most important thing, you will spend your life completely wasting your time.
