According to a new report this has happened while Donald Trump and Fox News have “pushed noxious anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim ideas into the public consciousness”.
white supremacist killings in 2018 was 40 showing a rise from 17 the previous year. Even more telling is the media blackout on the Black Lives Matter movement that was used on a daily basis to criticize Barack Obama while in office.
The report said at the same time, the total number of hate groups rose to 1,020, up about 7 per cent from 2017.
White Supremacists Emboldened By The President
The Southern Poverty Law Centre (SPLC), an Alabama-based group that tracks extremism across the nation, said some white supremacist leaders such as Richard Spencer, appeared to have lost their previous enthusiasm for the president. The report claimed that “most Americans are now fully aware that Trump is emboldening white supremacists and helping to grow their ranks”.

Shining a Light on the Racism
Many people have taken to Twitter to voice their concerns and take on the aggressive push to create divides in society.
Back in 2017 Trump was criticised by many for what was taken to be his failure to quickly condemn far right violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, including an attack that left one young woman dead when a lone man drove his car into a crowd of demonstrators. On first speaking to reporters about the incident, he said there were “very fine people, on both sides”.
After the attack on the Pennsylvania Jewish synagogue, the president visited and spoke to survivors, despite the presence of protesters. Even calling for armed guards inside places of worship, similar to a previous claim that teachers should be armed to prevent school shootings.
“If there was an armed guard inside the temple, they would have been able to stop him,” Trump.
That’s exactly the kind of argument a white supremacists would make: arguing that it doesn’t exist. It’s like the old adage the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist. Actually my words mirror his. pic.twitter.com/XhYCPUhL1E

The 30 percent increase in white supremacists and other extremist groups, coincides with Donald Trump’s campaign and presidency. It comes on the heels of three consecutive years of decline near the end of former President Obama’s time in office. @GOP @DNC is this the USA? SHAME
